Tenun Ikat Sikka

A mandate of the Swiss Federal Institute of Intellectual Property, I contributed with design and business skills to the case of the traditional handwoven fabrics from Sikka, Indonesia. This project took place as part of the Swiss-international Intellectual Property Rights Project ISIP II, “Geographic Indication”. I collaborated with Antonio Scarponi for scenography and booth design and with the Sahabat Cipta Foundation as the implementation Partner.

Ikat from Sikka is an ancestral tradition which still plays an important role in the life of Sikka people. The geographical indication would require a symbol for the textiles and textile outcomes carrying the name of Tenun Ikat Sikka. After a workshop with the weavers and the team members, we agreed on reinforcing the existing traditional symbol in a way that can be used to enter the international market.
